00:07

00:10

i’m club captain here at balmain

00:12

i’m also a uts alumni and a player both

00:15

of us together are proud members of uts

00:17

balmain water polo club

00:19

here at balmain we’ve got an incredibly

00:20

unique history and one that we’re very

00:22

very proud of

00:23

we were founded in 1884 and we are the

00:26

longest standing water polo club in new

00:28

south wales

00:29

dawn fraser the baths has expansive

00:30

harbour views and a deck which is the

00:32

heart of our game days and social

00:33

gatherings

00:34

here at balmain we’re a family club with

00:36

over 600 members

00:38

balmain has teams in both the men and

00:40

women’s competitions

00:41

as well as having junior boys and girls

00:43

teams in all age groups

00:45

the club caters for all standards from

00:47

the beginner right through to the elite

00:49

with our teams in the australian water

00:50

polo league uts balmain water polo

00:53

offers

00:53

student discounts to all uts students

00:56

and alumni

00:58

as we already mentioned we train at dawn

01:00

fraser baths but in addition to this the

01:02

club also utilizes other local pools

01:05

such as leichhardt ashfield and auburn

01:07

and other locations in the inner west

01:09

balmain is one of the 10 uts high

01:12

performance clubs

01:13

what that means for you is that if

01:14

you’re an elite athlete and a student at

01:16

uts

01:17

then there’s a wide range of services

01:19

and benefits that we can offer you

01:21

to make sure that you get the most out

01:23

of your sport as well as supported with

01:25

your academic studies

01:26

uts balmain water polo club also plays

01:29

in the australian water polo league

01:31

we have both a men’s and a women’s team

01:33

and are incredibly

01:35

competitive and have a very long history

01:37

of success so whether you’re looking to

01:39

move clubs

01:40

or to start somewhere new then uts

01:42

Balmain water polo club is the place for

01:43

you

01:44

one of the best things about our club is

01:46

the club culture and social events

01:48

Gen can you tell us a bit more about

01:49

them yeah definitely so throughout our

01:51

regular season

01:52

one of the best things about a home game

01:54

at Dawny is the barbecue

01:55

really creates an amazing atmosphere for

01:57

our supporters the general public but

01:59

also all our club members

02:01

we also host a number of fundraising

02:03

events throughout the season

02:04

one of our big ones is the Dawny to

02:06

cockatoo island swim

02:07

so that’s normally held in november and

02:09

as you can see behind me

02:11

cockatoo island is where we swim to from

02:14

Dawny we also host

02:15

a smaller swim so we really try to cater

02:17

for all age groups

02:18

so look out for that if you ever want to

02:20

get involved it’s an absolutely

02:22

fantastic day down here and a really

02:24

great cause

02:25

we also host a number of social events

02:27

throughout the year one of our biggest

02:28

ones this year was the black and gold

02:30

ball

02:30

which we held at the aerial function

02:32

center that was an awesome night and a

02:34

really great

02:34

opportunity to bring our community

02:36

together the last thing that we do down

02:38

here that’s really unique to our club is

02:40

the under 12s tournament

02:41

that’s held here during the beginning of

02:43

january every year

02:44

that’s the really great way to introduce

02:46

young people to water polo

02:48

and also a great fundraising activity so

02:50

one of the best things about being a

02:51

student athlete at uts

02:53

is getting to go to nationals which

02:54

happens every year so steph can you tell

02:56

us a little bit about nationals and how

02:58

great an experience it is

02:59

so nationals is really great because we

03:01

send both a men’s and women’s team

03:04

um it’s a great way to get involved um

03:06

at a sport at uts

03:08

and it’s also just a really great way to

03:09

make long life friends

03:11

experience something new and to really

03:14

get involved with

03:15

the great things uts sport has to offer

03:17

um a bit of history about

03:19

our two teams um we’re quite competitive

03:21

over the last few years the women have

03:23

won

03:23

two gold medals and the men have won one

03:26

so it’s a really

03:27

great way to be a part of a competitive

03:28

sport but still the social aspect of

03:31

making new friends

03:32

and really building those relationships

03:33

at university so if you’re keen to get

03:35

involved then follow us

03:37

on social media so we’ve got instagram

03:39

and facebook and twitter so check it out

03:41

if you’re keen to

03:41

join our club
